Purpose of the role
A key member of the Senior Operations Team, the Transport Manager will oversee the end-to-end management of a high-value transport contract. The Transport Manager will be responsible for the operational and commercial performance of the transport provider, ensuring efficient service delivery and contractual compliance. This is a pivotal role for a logistics professional with a proven track record in fleet and contract management.
Duties and Responsibilities
Overseeing the transportation contract for the organisation, ensuring commercial performance targets and contractual obligations are met or exceeded.
Acting as the primary point of contact for the organisation, ensuring strong stakeholder engagement and proactive issue resolution.
Developing and implementing operational strategies to improve efficiency and enhance service delivery.
Monitoring KPIs and generating regular reports on operational performance and compliance.
Monitoring compliance against all transport regulations, health & safety standards, and company policies.
Ensuring that the transport provider has effective processes in place to ensure fleet reliability and minimal downtime.
Driving continuous improvement initiatives across operations.
Working with the transport provider to ensure that vehicles are properly maintained and fit and serviceable and that vehicles and drivers remain compliant contractually and with legal obligations.
Effective and regular liaising with all other relevant departments to ensure efficiency across our delivery.
Motivate the transport provider to understand all legislative requirement and ensure a robust system of performance management, in line with contractual KPI requirements.
Manage and oversee the transport provider contract.
Conduct regular internal audits and maintain up-to-date compliance processes.
Continuously evaluate and improve procedures to ensure full legal compliance.
Staff Management
Planning and prioritising your diary to ensure monthly one to ones and performance reviews are completed.
Managing personal time to meet business demands and work closely with the Service Centre team around transport demands.
Actively supporting the team to meet their objectives and meet the requirements of the contract.
Ensuring that the team is trained and developed to support the requirements of the contract and to support the successful completion of their tasks.
Planning and managing personal business objectives in line with the Statement of Requirements (SOR) set out within the contract.
Pursuing personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role.
Ensuring that complaints are responded to on time and in a clear and professional manner.

Professional
Maintaining a good understanding of the legislation of the contract.
Must have previous people supervisory or management experience.

Working knowledge of health and safety legislation relevant to fleet management.
Proven experience in contract logistics, fleet management, or transport operations (minimum 2–5 years).
In-depth understanding of transport legislation and industry best practices.
You will have a proven history of fleet and vehicular management in an aligned field, including applicable industry qualifications and a strong understanding of all legislative and legal requirements for drivers of fleet vehicles.
