JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Transport Manager to oversee and enhance our transportation operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the logistics of transporting goods efficiently and safely while ensuring compliance with regulations. This role requires strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including suppliers, customers, and team members.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience in a transport or logistics management role with responsibility for fleet and driver compliance, routing, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of UK transport legislation, fleet operations and vehicle maintenance requirements.
  • Solid experience in route planning and the use of transport and telematics systems.
  • Knowledge of supply chain management principles to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Proven leadership abilities to motivate and guide a team towards achieving goals.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

Responsibilities
  • Ensure full compliance with DVSA regulations, operator licensing conditions, driver hours and tacograph rules, and all relevant transport legislation.
  • Manage all aspects of fleet maintenance including inspections, servicing, MOT’s and defect reporting, ensuring vehicles remain roadworthy and compliant at all times, working with the in house mechanic.
  • Plan, coordinate and manage daily delivery routes to maximise vehicle utilisation, reduce milage and improve delivery performance.
  • Lead and support the driver team, overseeing training, performance monitoring and compliance with working time regulations.
  • Maintain accurate transport records including vehicle files, driver logs, maintenance schedules and incident reports.
  • Identify and implement improvements in routing, fleet performance and cost control.
  • Enforce and promote health and safety standards within the transport department.
  • Manage relationships with third part courier partners, suppliers and maintenance providers.
