To lead and develop the transport function, ensuring legal compliance, operational excellence, and alignment with the company’s sustainability and growth objectives. The Transport Manager will play a pivotal role in managing the internal HGV fleet circa. 55 vehicles, modernising transport systems and technologies, and driving efficiencies that support the business’s environmental and commercial targets and strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a 3-5 year transport strategy aligned with business growth and sustainability goals.
  • Identify and implement HGV and commercial fleet modernisation initiatives, including procurement, integration, and optimisation to align with budgetary goals (e.g. telematics, route optimisation, fleet management systems, electric vehicles).
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Operations to align transport performance with science based targets for carbon reduction and efficiency.
  • Oversee daily transport operations, route planning, scheduling and load optimisation ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery performance.
  • Monitor and manage transport budgets, KPIs, and service levels i.e. On-Time Delivery, Cost per Mile, Vehicle Utilisation, Fuel Efficiency, and Compliance Scores.
  • Ensure all vehicles and drivers meet legal and safety standards.
  • Oversee audits (e.g. FORS, RHA, Blue Audit) and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure full compliance with O-Licence requirements, maintaining accurate records of driver hours, tachograph data, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Conduct performance reviews, training plans, and succession planning.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Support business continuity planning and risk mitigation strategies.
