TRANSPORT MANAGER

Sunskips growth of the company over the last 12 month has put us in a position to want to add another Transport Manager to help manage our fast growing fleet.
The Transport Manager to oversee and manage this core function of our skip hire and waste management business.
The Transport Manager will be based at our Head Office in Stowmarket and be required to visit operational sites to fulfil the duties for the role.

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS

  • Operator CPC essential
  • A strong understanding of fleet-related policy, procedure and relevant legislation
  • Experience in a similar role
  • Understands the importance of all health and safety and driver regulations
  • Strong PC skills and good working knowledge of Microsoft packages

Ideal but not essential

  • Experience in the waste industry with skip Lorry and hook loader operations
  • Hold an HGV/LGV licence
  • Planning/Logistics experience
  • Health & Safety qualification IOSH, COSHH

Responsibilities
  • Ensuring 6 weekly PMI’s, MOTs, road tax payments and Loler inspections are completed on time and monitor post-repair performance
  • Investigate any non-compliance issues, MOT and service failures and take prompt corrective action as required.
  • Ensure effective and timely maintenance, servicing and repair of vehicles in order to minimise downtime.
  • Overall responsibility for the reporting and recording of vehicle defects by drivers.
  • Overall responsibility for ensuring the vehicle/s are not overloaded.
  • Ensuring that authorised vehicles will be kept at the authorised operating centre.
  • Make recommendations for timely vehicle replacements, including types and manufacturers of vehicles, spares etc. in order to improve cost-efficiency.
  • Ensure vehicle signwriting is correct and presentable.
  • Work proactively with our insurers and all departments within the business to reduce fleet-related accidents/incidents.
  • Management of vehicle-related accidents, ensuring insurance claims are kept up to date.
  • Work with the General Manager and Site Managers to hold driver’s meetings, tool-box talks and to resolve any issues that arise.
  • Maintaining the highest standards of health and safety, whilst promoting a positive health and safety culture at all times.
  • Develop an inhouse training approach, in conjunction with the driver training supervisors and Site Manager’s to ensure all staff are appraised and trained to work safely and efficiently with a customer service focus.
  • Monitor and manage driver adherence to critical safety processes
  • Responsibility for departmental cost control in line with budget.
  • Review near misses / incidents in order to establish and implement learning and best practices.
  • Organise and control the effective supervision of all transport key activities within the depot against the targets set.
  • Manage the company’s legal requirements of monitoring tachographs
  • Management of driver hours.
  • Monitor and manage driver infringements, using corrective actions, where necessary.
  • Responsible for the online Fleet system and all transport files for compliance
  • Working closely with the Sales and Senior Account Managers to analyse customer feedback/information, develop innovative ideas and drive continuous improvement.
  • Periodic reporting of Transport performance, agree and implement remediable action where required.
