Job Description We're on the hunt for a Transport Manager who will be responsible for overseeing and optimising Transam New Zealand’s Transport Business. This role ensures the efficient movement of goods from their point of origin to their destination. A strong strategic approach to planning is essential, with an emphasis on aligning logistics operations with the company’s long-term objectives. This position plays a vital role in maintaining smooth, compliant, and cost-efficient trucking operations, directly contributing to the overall success of the company. Here is what you will be doing: Oversee the transport operations, including truck workshop and owner-driver fleet. Drive safe, efficient, and customer-focused delivery performance through effective planning, dispatch, and route optimization. Develop and implement strategies to optimize fleet and resource utilization. Manage and support the transport team of drivers, dispatchers, and mechanics. Resolve logistical challenges and drive operational efficiency projects. Ensure full compliance with all relevant transport, safety, and regulatory requirements Champion change initiatives, helping the business adapt to growth, customer expectations, and market demands. Provide ongoing training and development to team members. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and process optimization. Oversee scheduling, dispatch, and route planning for on-time delivery. Develop and maintain strong relationships with transport providers and key operational stakeholders. Own fleet maintenance and servicing schedules. Prepare and present operational reports and data analysis. Manage and monitor transport budgets for cost efficiency. Qualifications Here’s what you’ll bring to the table: 5+ Years of Industry Expertise: A solid background in transport, logistics, or fleet operations, ideally gained in a similar, supervisory or leadership role. Integrity & Work Ethic: You lead by example, take ownership, and operate with professionalism and accountability in everything you do. Safety Champion: A genuine safety-first mindset, with a sound understanding of HSE legislation, compliance requirements, and best-practice operational standards. Strategic Operational Thinking: You’re as comfortable in the detail as you are looking ahead, able to identify opportunities to improve performance, efficiency, and service outcomes. Financial Acumen: The ability to monitor, manage and control the P&L. Results-Driven Problem Solver: Thriving under pressure, you tackle challenges head-on and consistently deliver outstanding results. Fleet and Maintenance Knowledge: You have a working knowledge of fleet maintenance and servicing requirements, with a desire to further develop your capability in this area. Tech-Savvy: Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with a strong technical understanding of fleet management systems.
