Transport Planner (Same Day)

Location: Liverpool

Salary: £33,000 - £35,000 per annum

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

Reporting To: Operations Manager

Our client is a well-established and growing logistics business specialising in same-day, next-day, and pallet distribution services across the UK. Renowned for delivering exceptional customer service, operational reliability, and time-critical transport solutions, they support a diverse customer base with tailored logistics services, advanced tracking technology, and a customer-first approach.

The Role

Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an experienced and highly organised Transport Planner (Same Day) to join their operations team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and managing same-day courier movements, ensuring maximum vehicle utilisation whilst delivering outstanding customer service. This is a fast-paced role requiring excellent logistical planning skills, strong geographical knowledge, and the ability to react quickly to changing operational demands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate same-day courier deliveries across the UK
  • Allocate jobs efficiently to employed and subcontracted drivers
  • Monitor vehicle movements and ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are achieved
  • Optimise routes to maximise productivity and profitability
  • Maintain regular communication with drivers regarding collections, deliveries, and route changes
  • Liaise with customers regarding bookings, delivery updates, and service queries
  • Proactively identify and resolve transport issues or delays
  • Source additional transport capacity through approved subcontractor networks when required
  • Ensure accurate job costing and pricing in line with company guidelines
  • Monitor operational KPIs and service performance
  • Maintain accurate records using transport management systems and tracking platforms
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, transport legislation, and company policies
