With a strong commitment to excellence, innovation, and client satisfaction, we deliver comprehensive solutions for infrastructure projects across the U.S. Our collaborative culture, technical expertise, and passion for improving communities drive our success.   Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering (ICE) is seeking experienced Construction Inspectors for multiple upcoming opportunities in North Carolina.  These roles offer the chance to contribute to a variety of impactful infrastructure and transportation initiatives across the region. Ideal candidates will hold relevant NCDOT certifications and have prior experience in Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) services.   Responsibilities * Provide daily observation of construction activities and document activities on required reports/forms. * Review construction materials for contract and specification compliance. * Inspect roadways and structures for conformance to plans and specifications. * Evaluate structural materials, placement of culverts, and structural operations such as foundation excavation. * Monitor placement of pilings, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete, and backfill. * Verifies lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using survey and field engineering equipment. * Perform accurate calculations and computations. * Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet the quality requirements of the project specifications. * Review contractor submittals for conformance to project documents and specifications. * Document and immediately report any non-compliance actions and safety violations to your immediate supervisor. * Recording Daily Work Reports to include quantities and an objective description of the work shift activities. Qualifications * Above average math and problem-solving skills are required. * Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer skills. * Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English. * Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. * Fleet drivers must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. * Must complete a pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace. Education and Experience Requirements * HS diploma required or equivalent required. * Associate or BS in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology is a plus. * Roadway and bridge inspection experience is required. * Experience working on NCDOT projects. * Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs. Certifications and Training Requirements Compensation is commensurate with the candidate's level of experience and applicable NCDOT certifications. We are seeking inspectors at all levels (TCI I-IV), with pay reflecting certifications, responsibilities, and demonstrated construction inspection expertise.  The following certifications help ensure that Inspectors comply with NCDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM standards for transportation infrastructure projects. ICE provides training for inspectors to obtain the following certifications and is invested in their professional growth.    Transportation Construction Inspector 1 & 2: Level 1: Entry-level inspector who works under supervision. Level 2: Experienced inspector who can perform duties independently. * 0-4+ years of inspection experience is desired. * One of the following certifications is preferred: * NCDOT Asphalt QMS * NCDOT Earthwork (Borrow Pitt, ABC Sampling, and Conventional Density Testing) * NCDOT Concrete Field Technician * Level II Certified Erosion & Sediment Control/Stormwater Site Manager * QA Chemical Stabilization Technician  Transportation Construction Inspector 3: Senior inspector with advanced certifications and responsibilities. * A minimum of 5 years of inspection experience is required. * Three of the following certifications are required:  * NCDOT Asphalt QMS * NCDOT Earthwork (Borrow Pitt, ABC Sampling, and Conventional Density Testing) * NCDOT Concrete Field Technician * Level II Certified Erosion & Sediment Control/Stormwater Site Manager * QA Chemical Stabilization Technician  Transportation Construction Inspector IV - Lead Inspector: Lead Inspector / Project Inspector, may oversee other inspectors and serve as primary field contact with NCDOT and contractors. * A minimum of 7 years of inspection experience is required. * The following certifications are required:  * NCDOT Asphalt QMS * NCDOT Earthwork (Borrow Pitt, ABC Sampling, and Conventional Density Testing) * NCDOT Concrete Field Technician * Level II Certified Erosion & Sediment Control/Stormwater Site Manager * QA Chemical Stabilization Technician  * Foundations Technician * Nuclear Guage Safety Training * Hazmat Training Safety Requirement For positions involving field work, completion of OSHA 10 certification is required as a condition of employment. New hires without current certification must complete the training within two (2) weeks of hire. ICE will provide the training and cover associated costs.   Work Environment & Physical Requirements The role involves moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs or ladders. Employees may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds. It is essential for employees to navigate construction sites skillfully and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.   Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods. Employees must be capable of working in varied environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and noisy settings, and be able to stand and walk during site visits. Additionally, working on construction projects may involve night work and weekend work depending on the project scope and may include working in conditions with active traffic. Expected Hours of Work The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily.
