Description
Transportation Engineer 3, Office of Contract Sales & Estimating, PN 20049400 What You Will Do: • Join our dynamic team in the Division of Construction Management’s Office of Contracting & Estimating, where you’ll play a critical role in shaping Ohio’s transportation future. We’re looking for a civil engineering professional who thrives on evaluating complex construction plans, preparing official Engineers' Estimates, and digging into bid analytics for high-impact projects that connect communities and support statewide mobility. Your work will directly support the responsible use of public funds and help deliver safe, efficient transportation solutions for communities across Ohio. • Use your analytical skills to develop cost estimates with Excel and AASHTOWare Preconstruction. Your work will help uncover risks and issues and provide insights that directly inform award decisions and uphold the integrity of Ohio’s infrastructure investments. Estimators play a key role in regular bid review meetings with senior leadership, helping guide decisions with data-driven analysis and professional judgment. You’ll gain visibility across the organization and contribute to the financial soundness of projects before they move to construction. • This role is ideal for professionals who enjoy a fast-paced environment and prefer working on shorter-term assignments. Estimators typically work on multiple projects in parallel, moving through cycles of estimating, review, and analysis every few weeks. Unlike traditional design or construction roles that may follow a single project for months or years, this position offers variety, momentum, and exposure to a broad range of project types. You’ll collaborate with both design and construction teams, making this a dynamic and well-rounded role that values strong communication skills and cross-functional coordination. • Act as a key liaison between Central Office and district teams to resolve cost-related issues, evaluate change orders and value engineering proposals, and ensure estimates reflect real-world conditions. While the role is largely office-based, occasional field visits and district meet-and-greets provide valuable insight into construction practices, foster relationships, and help ground your estimates in practical application. You’ll be part of a supportive, collaborative team that values knowledge-sharing, innovation, and continuous improvement. Ready to make an impact? Join a team where your technical skills and insights help shape the future of transportation across Ohio. Benefits to you: · Enjoy an excellent work/life balance. · Receive paid time off with vacation, sick and personal leave. · Receive 11 paid holidays per year. · Receive regular pay increases; 1st increase after 4 months. · Receive an extensive benefits package; including Medical and FREE Vision, Dental and Basic Life Insurance after completion of eligibility period. · Experience growth opportunities within organization. · Participate in employee tuition reimbursement programs. · Receive a pension plan with 14%25 employer contribution.
