Under the direction of the Pavement Engineering Branch Chief, a Senior Transportation Engineer, the Transportation Engineer (Civil) (TE Civil) acts as the Source Inspection Engineer. The TE Civil performs difficult and complex materials testing work; performs field inspections and investigations to determine compliance with plans and specifications on all phases of highway or bridge construction projects. Coordinates with Headquarters Materials Engineering and Testing Services (METS), other Units within Caltrans, and with external partners, including contractors and suppliers. Based on the unit workload and delivery commitments, performs various transportation engineering tasks of average difficulty accomplished through understanding and applying Caltrans standards, manuals, guidelines, policies, directives, and computer software applications.
