Description
Description The Transportation & Freight Analyst is responsible for analyzing freight and small parcel shipping rates, negotiating carrier contracts, coordinating shipments, and ensuring compliance with hazardous materials regulations. This role plays a critical part in optimizing transportation costs across parcel, LTL, and FTL while maintaining strong carrier relationships and ensuring safe, compliant movement of goods. Key Responsibilities Freight & Small Parcel Analysis Analyze shipping rates across small parcel (USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL), LTL, and FTL to identify cost-saving opportunities Audit carrier invoices, accessorial charges, and surcharges Benchmark carrier pricing and service levels across parcel and freight modes Maintain rate tables, zone/weight analysis, and support RFP/bid processes Provide reporting on transportation spend, trends, and KPIs Carrier Management & Negotiation Negotiate contracts and pricing with parcel carriers (USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL) as well as LTL/FTL providers Manage carrier mix and optimize service selection (ground, express, international) Evaluate carrier performance (on-time delivery, transit times, claims, cost efficiency) Identify and onboard new carriers to improve cost or service levels Analyze and optimize final mile / last mile carrier performance, balancing cost, service levels, and customer experience Support final mile carrier selection, RFPs, and contract negotiations including service level expectations Shipment Coordination Coordinate daily shipments across parcel, LTL, and FTL networks Schedule pickups and manage dispatching at warehouse facilities Ensure proper labeling, routing, and documentation for all shipments Troubleshoot delivery issues, delays, and service failures Collaborate with warehouse, customer service, and operations teams Hazardous Materials & Compliance Ensure compliance with hazardous materials regulations (DOT, IATA, IMDG as applicable) Classify hazardous goods and determine proper shipping methods and restrictions Interpret and apply Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for correct handling, packaging, and labeling Ensure compliance for small parcel hazmat shipments (e.g., limited quantity, ORM-D replacement, lithium batteries, etc.) Maintain required documentation, shipping papers, and labeling standards Stay up to date on regulatory changes and ensure company compliance Any other duties as assigned Requirements Skills Strong understanding of small parcel carriers (USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL) and rate structures (zones, DIM weight, surcharges) Experience negotiating parcel and/or freight carrier agreements Knowledge of hazardous materials shipping regulations and classifications Experience working with SDS documentation and hazmat compliance Proficiency in Excel and transportation/logistics systems (TMS, parcel shipping software) Skills & Competencies Strong analytical and cost-optimization mindset Negotiation and vendor management skills High attention to detail, especially in compliance and billing Ability to manage high shipment volume and multiple priorities Strong communication and cross-functional coordination Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience) 3+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or parcel shipping Hazmat certification (DOT/IATA) preferred Experience in a 3PL or e-commerce fulfillment environment, familiarity with parcel audit tools and multi-carrier shipping systems, Experience with final mile carrier selection and management. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Primarily office-based with occasional warehouse interaction, Ability to sit for extended periods and work at a computer, Occasional warehouse walkthroughs to validate system processes Occasional travel is required to remote sites when necessary
