JOB SUMMARY

  • The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two (2) years of experience (e.g. Transportation Generalist Senior, Transportation Specialist or equivalent) providing technical training and direction to staff, planning and coordinating work activities and lead work direction to road maintenance or construction crew; Construction or Plant Manager; or military leaders. The project direction/lead work/supervision must include providing technical training and direction to other staff and planning/coordinating work activities.

OR

  • Four (4) years of experience on a road or construction crew (e.g., TG or equivalent).

EDUCATIONAL SUBSTITUTION:

  • A two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four-year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Business Administration; Construction Management; Land Surveying /Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of TGS experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Moderate knowledge of non-commercial herbicide/pesticide applicator’s processes and procedures.
  • Experience operating, inspecting, maintaining and repairing roadway maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Experience working with hazardous materials and hazardous waste stream management.
  • Experience working with windows based computer software and database applications, including TAMS.
  • Working knowledge of Brine Generator Systems.
  • Snow and Ice leadership experience
  • Budgeting and purchasing experience.
  • Knowledge of related labor agreements or work in a union environment.

JOB DUTIES:

This position manages and coordinates all phases of highway maintenance operations (vegetation control, surface repair, drainage maintenance, snow and ice control, debris removal, shoulder and slope maintenance, inventory and procurement, hazardous materials, and waste, etc.) in the Bay sub area (Baxter, Wadena, and Motley). This also includes supervising sub area personnel, developing work plans and budget, and coordinating equipment use and maintenance.
The incumbent is required to be immediately accessible to a phone and be able to report to work within one (1) hour of being called.
