- Completion of a degree in Planning, plus sound related work experience in transportation planning, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Sound knowledge of transportation policy and planning best practices.
- Sound knowledge of standard research methods and techniques, as well a current trends and developments, in transportation planning.
- Knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies, bylaws and objectives governing the operation of the City’s Transportation Division.
- An understanding of urban street design components, complete streets, all ages and abilities cycling routes, and awareness of emerging transportation technologies and services to apply in developing transportation plans, programs and services.
- Ability to collect, analyze and interpret information and data from a variety of sources and present conclusions and recommendations in graphic and written form.
- Ability to develop, implement and evaluate transportation programs and initiatives.
- Ability to prepare presentations and reports on transportation policy and planning issues.
- Ability to develop and disseminate promotional materials, deliver presentations and participate in public engagement events.
- Ability to be self-directed and see tasks through to completion.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
- Advanced level of proficiency with MS Office and good working knowledge of ArcView GIS.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
Responsibilities:
- Technical research, analysis and interpretation of transportation data applicable to transportation programs and services
- Complete GIS mapping analysis and preparation of GIS maps are accessible to City staff and public.
- Development and analysis of transportation policy and implementation of associated monitoring programs to evaluate effectiveness.
- Draft recommendations on proposed transportation policies and bylaws that support management of transportation infrastructure, programs and services.
- Development and implementation of programs and events that support sustainable and active transportation modes.
- Coordinates, liaises with community members, public agencies, non-profit organizations, business improvement associations, resident associations, and other city departments to advance transportation initiatives, programs and projects.
- Represents the Transportation Division during public engagement processes, including facilitation of workshops, representation at public events, answering questions specific to transportation policy, practice, the Master Transportation Plan, and neighbourhood transportation plans.
- Responds to public enquiries about transportation policies and projects.
- Develops, writes, and collaborates on plans and strategies, and reports to Council.
- Supports the Transportation Division’s development application review through assessment of potential site, neighbourhood and city transportation-related impacts.
- Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
