EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
· At least three (3) to five (5) years of experience leading, coordinating, or supervising the completion of a local, regional, or state plan or project.
· Knowledge of theories, principles, and techniques of regional transportation and mobility planning. Proficiency in transportation and demographic research skills, including extensive familiarity with data sources.
· Working knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment, including applicable software (Adobe, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
· Effective written and verbal skills, and ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
· Support and promote a strong internal culture based on SEMCOG core values.COG core values.

Responsibilities

SEMCOG is seeking an organized and experienced Transportation Policy Coordinator to join our Transportation Planning and Programming team. The Coordinator supports SEMCOG’s responsibilities as the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), coordinating planning and policy development to meet federal requirements. Leads the tracking and interpretation of transportation legislation and funding programs and conducts policy research to inform regional decision-making. Involves significant collaboration with state and federal partners, technical assistance to local stakeholders, and oversight of federal MPO requirements. Also supports internal coordination on planning initiatives, public engagement, and communication of transportation and mobility policies.
The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership and coordination abilities and enjoys working within teams; works directly with staff of local governments and other key stakeholders; has strong communication, presentation, and public speaking skills; knowledge of transportation policy and planning processes; and ability to produce clear and concise technical reports. Possesses well-developed organization and time management skills, pays attention to detail, self-motivated, capable of working on multiple tasks with competing deadlines, and works cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of staff.
