INTRODUCTION

WisDOT is currently seeking to fill a Transportation Specialist Advanced (Freight Coordinator position) within the Division of Transportation System Development, Southwest Region.
This position offers a hybridized work schedule. The position will be headquartered at and required to work from the DTSD Madison or LaCrosse, WI offices at least 2 days per week. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are generally expected to telework from within the State of Wisconsin. This topic will be discussed more at the time of the interview.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position will have region wide responsibilities and be the sole freight coordinator for 16 counties in the Southwest Region providing advanced and high-level expertise in highway systems management, multi-modal planning, transportation corridor studies, transportation data and analysis related to freight and traffic questions. This position is responsible for the coordination, management, and implementation of the regions freight coordination efforts and will require a detailed understanding, interpretation, application and enforcement of rules along with a variety of state statues and administrative rules related to freight operations for the state ensuring all applicable engineering standards, statutory requirements, and restrictions are met.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified applicants will have experience with all the following:

  • Experience interpreting and applying technical specifications to meet expectations on how work is accomplished (experience may include transportation related project management - review plans, documenting, and relaying project issues; enforcing specifications; managing project files; coordinating with internal and external partners; experience following standardized highway procedures such as AASHTO or WisDOT procedures; administering contracts; and planning, scheduling and managing workload).
  • Experience communicating (including technical information) to varied customers or groups (customers/groups may include management, employees, public officials, vendors, contractors, customers, other personnel, etc.)
