Description

Trauma Fellow in Orthopaedics
12 month Fixed Term Contract
We are looking to appoint up to 2 Trauma Fellows in Orthopaedics on a fixed term appointment from August 2025 - August 2026. These will be considered on a full time or less than full time basis.
These posts are suitable for doctors with MRCS preparing for a career in Orthopaedic Surgery and planning to apply for ST3, or doctors wishing to extend their exposure to orthopaedics to enhance their CESR applications or applications for long term staff grade posts in orthopaedics.
There is ample opportunity for the successful candidate to come to theatre and undergo Consultant guided operative experience. You will take part in our full shift rota attracting banding payments. Although these posts are primarily focussed on trauma there will be opportunities to gain some elective experience.
Derriford Hospital is the South West Peninsula Major Trauma Centre (MTC) and one of the largest District General Hospitals in the United Kingdom with over 1200 beds. Successful candidates will experience great exposure to major trauma and the management of multiple inured trauma patients.
University of Plymouth Peninsula Medical School has been praised by the GMC for its innovative approach to undergraduate medical education. The curriculum is based around problem based learning and has been highly ranked by our graduates in how they felt prepared for postgraduate medicine. Your role will include important opportunities to engage with undergraduate education, in both the hospital environment and the school itself, to continue this vital job of producing tomorrow’s doctors and allied health care professionals.
