Job Title: Travel Companion (Term Time)
Location: Birmingham
Salary: £24,027 to £25,992 (full time salary) Salary will be pro rata based on hours worked.
Contract Type: Term Time only plus 2 weeks training
Working Hours: Monday - Friday 7:15am- 9:00am and 3:00-4:45pm either 12.5 hours or 17.5 hours per week

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for dedicated and compassionate Passenger Assistants to join our Children and Young People’s Travel Service. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transport of children and adults with additional needs to and from school, college, or other designated locations. This is a rewarding opportunity to support individuals in their daily journeys while promoting their independence and well-being.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist children and adults with special educational needs during travel, ensuring their personal, physical, and medical needs are met.
  • Work closely with families, schools, and other professionals to ensure safe and effective travel services.
  • Ensure health, safety, and well-being of passengers at all times during transit.
  • Support passengers in boarding, securing seatbelts, and using safety equipment correctly.
  • Communicate effectively with families, schools, and the Travel Passenger Team regarding any issues, delays, or concerns.
  • Complete records, logs, and reports as required, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Promote awareness of the Council’s Children & Young People’s Travel Policy and encourage independence where appropriate.
  • Adhere to safeguarding procedures, data protection policies, and health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain professionalism and respect the independence and dignity of all passengers.
