Description Job Title: Traveling Ophthalmic Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Location: Feather River Eye Care, Royo, and Yuba Sutter Eye Care Job Type: Full-time, Hourly (Non-Exempt) Reports To: Clinic Supervisor / Director of Leadership Wage: $25.00 per hour Position Summary The Traveling Ophthalmic Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a vital role in supporting high-quality patient care across our Southern Region, including clinics in Yuba City and Marysville. This dynamic and hands-on position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys variety in their workday, and is comfortable traveling between multiple clinic locations. Our private clinic locations are Feather River Eye Care (FREC), Royo Eye Care, and Yuba Sutter Eye Care (YSEC). As a CMA, you will assist optometrists and ophthalmologists by performing essential pre-exam testing, maintaining and troubleshooting diagnostic equipment, and helping ensure clinics operate smoothly and efficiently. You are a key member of the patient care team, welcoming patients, guiding them through testing procedures, and helping create a positive and professional clinical experience. This role offers the opportunity to support multiple clinics within the Southern Region. The ideal candidate is adaptable, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and collaboratively. Clinic Support, Patient Care, and Pre-Testing Travel to assigned private clinics within the Southern Region, including Yuba City and Marysville, ensuring timely arrival and readiness to support patient care. Adapt quickly to different clinic environments and workflow needs to maintain smooth daily operations. Anticipate and communicate with members of the team and technicians to ensure proper patient flow. Greet patients in a friendly, professional manner and help create a welcoming clinic experience. Obtain and accurately document patient medical histories in the EHR system. Ensure accurate test results and promptly communicate equipment concerns to leadership. Set up, operate, and maintain ophthalmic diagnostic equipment such as autorefractors, visual field analyzers, OCT, fundus cameras, and slit-lamp imaging devices. Perform comprehensive pre-exam testing, including but not limited to: Autorefractions (A/R) Confrontational fields Stereo and color vision testing Lensometer readings Visual acuity Pupil evaluations Motility testing Intraocular pressure (IOP) testing Dilation procedures Operational Support, Compliance and Collaboration Maintain and troubleshoot diagnostic and clinical equipment to ensure functionality, accuracy, and minimal operational downtime. Support optometrists and ophthalmologists during minor in-office procedures as needed. Ensure proper cleaning, sterilization, and autoclaving of instruments in accordance with established safety and infection-control standards. Accurately document patient testing, equipment maintenance, and services provided in accordance with clinic policies. Adhere to all clinic protocols, safety procedures, and HIPAA guidelines to protect patient safety and confidentiality. Monitor medical and back-office supply inventory and communicate low stock or equipment needs to appropriate leadership. Complete assigned opening and closing procedures to ensure clinic readiness and security. Process prescription refill requests and pre-authorization documentation as required. Assist in training new staff on diagnostic equipment, testing procedures, and clinic workflows. Collaborate effectively with CMAs, technicians, providers, and leadership to support efficient patient flow and reduce wait times. Promote a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment across all assigned clinic locations. Refer clinical questions from patients to the provider as appropriate. Provide support at satellite or partner clinics when needed. Perform additional duties as assigned to support clinic operations and high-quality patient care. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of clinical testing equipment, diagnostic tools, and proper testing procedures. Understanding of clinic policies and procedures to ensure consistency and high-quality patient care. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of the organization. Demonstrates initiative, sound judgment, and effective decision-making skills. Maintains a consistently pleasant, professional, and collaborative demeanor. Ability to uphold strict confidentiality regarding patient, company, and employee information. Requirements Education and Training Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required. 1 year of experience in a medical office or healthcare setting required. Willing and able to travel 1–3 times per week to various clinic locations. Reliable transportation required. Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license and active auto insurance. Strong interpersonal, communication, teamwork, and flexibility skills. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) is preferred but not required. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Primarily works in a temperature-controlled clinical environment. Prolonged standing, bending, stooping, stretching, and walking required. Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination sufficient to operate diagnostic equipment and office tools. Normal range of hearing and vision required for in-person, phone, and video communication. Occasional lifting of supplies or boxes up to 30 pounds. Position requires regular travel by car. Essential Physical Tasks Sight: Sufficient to read documents and images on a computer monitor. Smell: Sufficient to detect smoke or unusual odors. Hearing: Sufficient for conversations and awareness of ambient clinic sounds. Touch: Sufficient to operate keyboards, medical equipment, and writing tools. Physical Ability: Sufficient strength and mobility to lift, twist, reach, kneel, squat, sit, walk, stand, and bend throughout a standard shift.
