POSITION OVERVIEW:

TPG is actively seeking skilled Product Launch Prototype Mechanics who are “road warriors” to join our team based out of the San Antonio, TX area. Join our team supporting a leading global company dedicated to building state-of-the-art commercial vehicles. Successful candidates will support the research and development efforts to create the next generation of commercial transport solutions, driving innovation in the automotive and truck industry.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Product Launch Prototype Mechanic will play a pivotal role in supporting prototype vehicle assembly processes across multiple locations, ensuring adherence to established timelines and quality standards. This position is based in the San Antonio, Texas area, with a travel requirement of up to 80%. Primarily to Escobedo, Mexico; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Laredo, Texas; and other designated sites. Proficiency in both English and Spanish is essential to facilitate effective communication with diverse plant teams.
The Product Launch Prototype Mechanic will also be responsible for servicing and repairing complex mechanical and electronic systems of vehicles, as well as providing support with in-test inspections, vehicle repairs, and more. This position will involve hands-on construction or modification of prototype vehicles, including medium duty trucks, buses, and heavy-duty trucks with various powertrains such as diesel, electric, and alternative fuels.
The build operations department supports the R&D departments in the day-to-day operations and ensures that testing is not interrupted due to equipment failure or delays.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous mechanic experience involving truck and engine assembly, repair, and fabrication. Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Vehicle experience that includes some of the following: commercial vehicles, off-highway vehicles, agriculture vehicles, and/or passenger vehicles.
  • Experience with alternative fuels, including EV (electric vehicles), and/or Propane.
  • Experience with Cummins/Allison/Eaton/Duramax.
  • Training/Education as a Truck mechanic, as a Diesel Engine mechanic.
  • Experience with welding fabrication with Tig, Mig, Stick, Oxy-Acetylene Welding skillsplasma cutting.
  • Knowledge of multimeter and/or module programming.
  • Prior dealership or fleet service experience.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office - Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to follow detailed manuals and written instructions for vehicle assembly.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • MUST have a US Passport

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is essential to ensure effective communication at various plants.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 3 years of experience supporting engineering activities and/or automotive or diesel mechanic experience.
  • OR at least 3 years of experience working with Class 4-8 Truck experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Safety Sensitive position requiring all persons assigned to activity be drug-free and successfully pass drug screening prior to employment.
  • Requirement to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Must provide own tools for their use on the job at main facility; company will have access to specialty equipment and will provide tools to travel locations.
  • While the base location is in the San Antonio, Texas area, the position requires the ability to travel up to 80%.
  • Must be willing and able to travel via airplane and other modes of transportation, as required by project needs.
Responsibilities
  • Support product launches at various locations, ensuring adherence to timelines and quality standards.
  • Follow detailed manuals and written instructions for vehicle assembly processes.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, Mechanics, and plant teams to ensure alignment and problem-solving during product launches.
  • Diagnoses mechanical, hardware, software and systems failures using established procedures.
  • Performs maintenance, testing and calibration of repaired products.
  • Prepares reports for analysis of product failure trends and service ability issues.
  • Scope may include assembling, disassembling, inspect, repair and install components on vehicles - including engines and powertrain. Either modify existing vehicles or build units from the ground up.
  • Conduct welding fabrication with Tig, Mig, Stick, Oxy-Acetylene Welding skillsplasma cutting.
  • Perform electrical troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Travel to designated assembly plants, adhering to company safety protocols and procedures.
