Job Description Montgomery College, Rockville Campus has an immediate need for a full-time TRIO Learning Specialist. This is a temporary with benefits position located in the Student Affairs Division. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm. This is a non-bargaining, exempt, grade 25 position. This position may be eligible for telework up to one (1) day a week. This eligibility is subject to change based on the needs of the unit. This position is based on availability of funding. The Learning Specialist position, Student Support Services TRIO Program, which is a temporary position with benefits funded through August 31, 2026. Employment continuation beyond this period is contingent upon need and funding. Under general supervision or direction, the incumbent is responsible for providing effective tutoring methods and academic guidance for native and non-native English-speaking students, students with learning or developmental disabilities or students unfamiliar with college level coursework and expectations. Contacts are with students to provide academic support. Also collaborates with other TRIO Program colleagues, college faculty and staff to regarding program and referrals. The work typically consists of a wide range of processes and methods of a professional nature, including planning, assessing, training and guiding. Duties Include but Are Not Limited To Providing guidance and tutoring to a wide range of students which may include those with disabilities, native and non-native speakers, developmental or other learning challenges. Facilitating sessions to review content and ensures understanding of previously discussed material and concepts. Preparing students for admission testing by providing tutoring in their respective field. Conducting individual sessions and small group workshops based on students’ needs and requests. Using technology to enhance students’ learning in the classroom and remotely. Maintaining current knowledge and certification within the field. Participating in Federal TRIO training programs. Participating in activities designed to build student success, team building and grants related objectives. Creating and maintaining program documentation, metrics and reports. Ensuring compliance with program and academic regulations and policies. Performing other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in education, English or related field. Master’s Degree preferred. Three years of experience working in higher education tutoring and mentoring students. Experienced in facilitating and presenting workshops. The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered. Proficient in using personal computers, including navigating internet, and skilled in word processing, database, spreadsheet applications. Financial Disclosure: May be required to file Hiring Range: $59,887-$77,830 annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $95,773.
