Description JOB SUMMARY The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of CDL Truck Driver within the Road Department. This position is responsible for operating a truck to haul equipment and materials to and from work sites, and for performing a variety of other duties associated with the construction, repair, and maintenance of county roads. MAJOR DUTIES Operates trucks and various pieces of equipment. Loads/unloads and hauls material used in construction, repair, and maintenance of county roads. Performs and checks loading and unloading of cargo; secures cargo in vehicles and trailers. Performs inspections before and after a trip according to federal laws and regulations. Performs grass cutting and tree trimming using tractors, trimmers, and edgers. Places lawn sods. Conducts routine inspections and performs basic service and repairs to maintain vehicle functionality and ensure safety. Reports the need for larger repairs to supervisor. Performs vehicle recovery. Corrects and reports all vehicle deficiencies; performs preventative maintenance. Loads dirt and debris using front-end loading and excavator. Clears roads from tree limbs and fallen trees, using chain saws and tools to clear the road. Assists in the preparation of driveway construction; flags traffic in congested areas and conducts lane closures to ensure safe operations. Responsible for receiving, storing and delivering petroleum to equipment in Liberty County in a timely and safe manner in accordance with federal laws. Drives street sweeper vehicle to clean and maintain streets of trash, debris and other contaminants. Performs related duties. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Basic mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment function and maintenance. Knowledge of general road repair. Knowledge of tie down procedures. Knowledge of department safety procedures. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in interpersonal relations. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to work independently and with a team. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects (up to 75 pounds), climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes sense of smell. The work is typically performed outdoors and occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent required. More than two (2) years of related experience required. Possession of a valid Georgia commercial driver’s license (CDL) and acceptable driving record. WORK SCHEDULE AND BENEFITS This position typically works Monday - Friday from 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM. The Liberty County Public Works Complex is located in Midway, Georgia.
