ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The Driver Class A drives a bobtail or tractor-trailer truck to pick up and deliver products as directed by the Director of Transportation & Safety and/or Logistics Supervisor. They will be responsible for transporting thousands of pounds of food that feeds children, seniors, families and veterans in Los Angeles County. WHAT YOU’LL DO Warehouse Operations: Regular and predictable on-site attendance must be maintained to fulfill all principal job duties. Maintains quality and ensures accuracy of work performed. Operates bobtail or tractor-trailer trucks, pallet jacks (electric and manual), and forklifts safely. Loads and unloads trucks using pallet jacks or forklifts. Inspects, sorts and consolidates products. Works effectively with other staff members at all levels of responsibility within the Food Bank, assuring teamwork, collaboration, and integrity. Safety and Compliance: Complies with all safety requirements such as inspection reports and prompt notification of equipment issues. Promptly reports to supervisor questionable pick-ups, late docking, transportation concerns, missing documents, quality issues, etc. are reported promptly to the supervisor. Advises supervisor of food safety or chemical safety concerns, including poor or unsafe palletizing. Helps maintain equipment, keeping facilities and vehicles clean at all times. Observe and follow safety rules. Documentation and Reporting: Ensures all documents, bills of lading, receipts, and tags are accurate for all products and programs loaded or unloaded—Notifies supervisor of quality or accuracy concerns. Signs receipts for items picked up for the Food Bank. Compliance and Record-Keeping: Drives truck to pick-up and delivery sites, storage sites, and back to the warehouse, ensuring DOT compliance in keeping truck/trip logs updated daily. Completes daily inspection forms for assigned trucks. Logs into and updates routing system software. Checks truck daily for serviceability, accurately completing Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR). Informs supervisor of truck service requirements and drives truck to and from service locations at the request of a supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS * Must be at least 18 years of age. * Possess a valid California Class A driver’s license. * Minimum of one (1) year of commercial driving experience. * Insurable with a solid driving history. * Proficient in English to effectively read and comprehend shipping documents. * Capable of lifting and carrying up to 45 pounds over distances of 5 to 8 feet. * Experience in safely operating forklifts. * Skilled in using both electric and manual pallet jacks. * Ability to accurately understand and complete bills of lading, receiving documents, and other relevant shipping/receiving paperwork. * Willingness to stoop, squat, bend, or reach frequently as required by delivery routes and program needs. * Strong interpersonal communication skills. * Passion for the Food Bank’s mission and commitment to the values of the organization: collaboration, inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility, respect, service, stewardship & accountability.
