Description Job Title: Truck Driver Hours/Week: As needed FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Objective: Incumbent will safely and accurately drive a semi tractor-trailer combination or a truck to transport goods and materials in liquid, loose, or packaged form. Will be required to load and unload truck and assist others with loading truck at farmers’ sites or other locations. Under the direction of the location supervisor and/or operations manager, the candidate may at times be responsible for tasks in operating our grain and/or agronomy facilities. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting in all aspects of the elevator operations. This position may be responsible for receiving grain, maintaining grain conditions, and measuring grain inventory. Incumbent will also be responsible for loading and unloading bulk and packaged fertilizer and chemical products and measuring agronomy inventory. The incumbent will be expected to assist other locations and departments as assigned by management. Will communicate availability regularly and assist with projects as needed. Incumbent maintains efficiency in a manner that will optimize the cooperative’s market share and savings, improve the cooperative’s efficiency, help achieve the cooperative’s mission and goals, and result in outstanding customer service. This position will maintain a positive attitude that promotes team work within the location, as well as within the cooperative and upholds a favorable image of Five Star Cooperative at all times. Job Summary and Primary Duties: Drive trucks with capacities greater than 13 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, in order to pickup and transport/deliver products, grain, feed, ingredients, petroleum, or other materials to specified locations Loads and unloads trucks. Helps others, including customers, with loading and unloading trucks. Operates any special loading-related equipment or vehicles and uses other equipment as necessary Maneuvers trucks into loading or unloading positions, follows signals from loading crews as needed; checks that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned. Couples and uncouples trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connects or disconnects air and electrical lines, and manipulates fifth-wheel locks. Follows appropriate safety procedures when transporting dangerous goods. Performs pre-trip inspections of vehicles before driving them to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order. Maintains logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable company, state, and federal regulations Obtains appropriate documentation when loads are delivered Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate Secures cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chains, binders, and /or covers. Reads documentation to determine assignment detail Reports vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicle. Reads and interprets maps in order to determine vehicle routes. Collects delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifies instructions and routes. Operates equipment such as truck cab computers, CB radios, and telephones to exchange necessary information with locations, supervisors or other drivers. Checks condition of trailers after content has been unloaded to ensure there is no damage Cranks trailer landing gear up or down to safety secure vehicles. Enforce and abide by all cooperative policies Maintain quality control above the standards set by Five Star Exhibits integrity and professional attitude Requirements Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent; fluent reading, writing, and speaking the English language Experience: Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary Computer skills required – Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel Good customer service skills and approach necessary Ag background a plus License, Certificate or Registration: Valid Class A, B, or Temp CDL; Valid DOT physical card; or the ability to obtain Basic Skills: Speaking, Writing, Reading Comprehension, Listening, Monitoring, Judgment and Decision Making, Time Management
