JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a reliable and motivated Heavy Duty Mechanic Shop Labourer or Apprentice to join our team at D & L Environmental Ltd. In this entry-level role, you will support our skilled mechanics in maintaining and repairing heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate is physically fit, eager to learn, and committed to maintaining a safe and organized shop environment. This position offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced mechanic shop with opportunities for growth into more advanced roles.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Physical stamina and strength to perform demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn on the job.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to safety procedures and maintaining a clean work environment.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, or overtime as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in a mechanic shop, automotive repair, or similar labour-intensive role (e.g., as a shop helper or general labourer).
  • Certification from a vocational or technical program in automotive or heavy-duty mechanics.
  • Familiarity with heavy-duty equipment, tools, or vehicles (e.g., trucks, excavators).
  • Basic computer skills for recording maintenance data.
Responsibilities
  • Assist mechanics with diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including tasks like disassembling and reassembling components.
  • Perform routine maintenance duties, such as oil changes, fluid checks, tire rotations, lubricating parts, and replacing filters.
  • Clean and organize the shop, tools, equipment, and work areas to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Help with inventory management, including ordering, receiving, and stocking parts and supplies.
  • Operate basic tools and machinery under supervision, following all safety protocols to prevent accidents.
  • Support road tests or inspections of repaired vehicles to verify performance.
  • Handle heavy lifting and physical tasks, such as moving parts or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs.
  • Follow instructions from lead mechanics and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Adhere to all workplace safety guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
