Description POSITION SUMMARY The Truck Technician is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, adjusting, and overhauling company trucks safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. This role prioritizes safety, teamwork, and high-quality workmanship to ensure all company trucks are in optimal operating condition. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS · Ensures that all company trucks are in a safe and operable condition. · Diagnoses mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using modern diagnostic equipment, telematics systems, and calibration tools. · Repairs company trucks (and other company equipment) in a timely fashion to ensure on-time delivery of customer freight. · Promotes shop safety and always follows company safety policies and procedures. · Conducts preventive maintenance (fluid changes, lubrication, cleaning, inspections, and other routine maintenance tasks). · Diagnoses faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized testing equipment and calibration devices. · Examines parts for damage or wear using micrometers, gauges, and other precision tools; replaces as needed. · Reads and interprets operating manuals, technical drawings, and schematics. · Tests mechanical and electrical systems post-repair to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications, FMCSR, and DOT regulations. · Repairs and maintains brake systems, HVAC systems, transmissions, and other vehicle subassemblies. · Performs welding, soldering, and fabrication as required. · Properly handles and disposes of hazardous materials in compliance with environmental and regulatory guidelines. · Maintains clean and organized workspaces; follows all shop safety policies and procedures. · Participates in safety meetings and actively identifies potential hazards for correction. · Provides professional, courteous support to drivers with breakdowns or equipment concerns. · Collaborates effectively with team members, supervisors, and drivers to maintain workflow and repair schedules. · Completes required paperwork, work orders, and logs accurately and on time. · Performs other duties as assigned or directed by Supervisor. *J&R Schugel is an equal opportunity employer. Requirements POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education · High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED). Experience · Minimum 1 year diesel technician experience required. · Demonstrated knowledge of truck repair, including engines, brakes, A/C, and electrical systems. Certifications · ASE, A/C, air brake, and diesel certifications preferred but not required. · Participation in ASE certification process encouraged. OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES · Must have own tools. · CDL Class A strongly desired; MnDOT certification preferred, with willingness to obtain if required. · Strong commitment to safety; follows all company and regulatory safety policies as the highest priority. · Ability to read, speak, and understand English. · Excellent attention to detail; willing to double-check work before completion. · Effective time management and organizational skills. · Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional Saturdays or additional shifts as needed. · Demonstrates professionalism and effective communication with team members and drivers. · Commitment to ongoing professional development and training.
