General Information Located on Vancouver Island just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo, the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is in the ancestral and unceded territories of First Nations including the Quw'utsun, Malahat, Ts'uubaa-asatx, Halalt, Penelakut, Stz'uminus, Lyackson, Pauquachin, Ditidaht, and Pacheedaht Nations. The CVRD provides a wide range of local government services to a population of 95,000. The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates as a regular part time Truckdriver-Glass in Solid Waste Operations within the Recycling & Solid Waste Management Division of the Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager - Solid Waste Operations and supervised by the Logistics Supervisor, the Truckdriver-Glass contributes to the effective operation of CVRD Recycling Facilities through the professional operation of CVRD single axle trucks and through the efficient and safe collection and hauling of glass recycling. As directed, provides support to and backs-up the curbside and roll-off Truckdrivers. The anticipated start date is late March or early April. Qualifications Secondary School graduation or equivalent Experience professionally driving a commercial truck adhering to routes and a schedule, preferably in a related field Experience in customer relations and conflict management Valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License with air endorsement Basic First Aid WHMIS – employer provided View the full job description listing all the job requirements. Hours of Work Guaranteed 30 hours of work per week. Subject to change, the current shifts for this position are six hours per day, Monday to Friday. There is an opportunity to pick up additional hours should they become available. Salary This position is unionized (USW Local 1-1937) with a Step 1 wage rate of $32.35 per hour and a Step 2 wage rate of $34.33 per hour (2026 wage rates). Benefits are included with this position. Responsibilities
The Truckdriver-Glass professionally operates CVRD single axle trucks for the efficient and safe collection and hauling of glass recycling at Recycling Facilities. This role also provides support and backup for curbside and roll-off truckdrivers as directed.
