TRUST ACCOUNTANT (1099)  -  HIGH-IMPACT, AUDIT-CRITICAL ROLE   Engagement Type: Independent Contractor (1099) Term: 90 Days (with strong potential to extend) Location: Remote or Onsite – St. Cloud, Florida Compensation: $35–$38/hour (based on expertise) No travel required   The Opportunity If you’re the type of accountant who enjoys finding what others miss, thrives on clean reconciliations, and takes pride in bulletproof audit trails - this is your lane.   The Transition House, Inc. is bringing in a specialized Trust Accountant to take ownership of fiduciary account reconciliations tied to Department of Corrections (DOC) compliance. This is high-stakes, detail-driven work where accuracy isn’t optional - it’s mission-critical.   You won’t be micromanaged. You will be trusted to deliver.   What You’ll Own This is not clerical accounting. This is forensic-level reconciliation work: * Execute monthly three-way reconciliations (Bank ↔ GL ↔ subledger) with zero tolerance for variance * Work within SecurManage to align trust activity with trial balances * Investigate discrepancies like a pro - document findings, recommend fixes, close the loop * Analyze trust transactions (draws, obligations, resident accounts, etc.) with a compliance lens * Build audit-ready workpapers that stand up to regulatory scrutiny * Handle unclaimed funds reconciliation and state reporting requirements * Communicate risks, gaps, and progress clearly - no surprises What Success Looks Like * Reconciliations completed on time, every cycle * Documentation that an auditor can pick up and trust immediately * Discrepancies identified early - and resolved or escalated with clarity * A finance team that can rely on your work without second-guessing Who This Is For You’re not just “good with numbers” - you’re obsessive about accuracy.   You likely have: * Proven experience in trust or fiduciary accounting * Deep expertise in three-way reconciliations * Confidence working across multiple ledgers and trial balances * The ability to work independently without hand-holding You bring: * Advanced Excel skills * Strong GAAP knowledge (especially in fiduciary environments) * A sharp eye for inconsistencies others overlook Bonus Points If You Have * Experience in DOC or regulated environments * Familiarity with SecurManage * Knowledge of unclaimed property laws * A track record of untangling complex reconciliation issues * Accounting degree or equivalent experience Work Style & Environment * Fully independent contractor role - you manage your workflow * Collaborative when needed, autonomous by design * Access to systems and support to get the job done right Additional Requirements * Ability to pass background screening if system access requires it Why This Role Stands Out This is a high-trust, high-skill engagement where your expertise directly impacts compliance, financial integrity, and organizational accountability.   If you’re tired of roles where your attention to detail is underutilized - this is where it pays off.
