Description

We require Trust Grade Junior Doctors to work in the Trauma and Orthopaedics Department at Gloucestershire Royal & Cheltenham General Hospital, although post-holders may rotate between both
sites. These posts are not recognised for training but will offer a similar experience as the Core Surgical Trainees and F2s who share the rota. The posts are initially for 4 months but are extendable, depending on satisfactory performance . These posts provide the opportunity to gain skills in orthopaedics at CST level equivalent to gain more experience prior to applying for ST3 entry. You will be given every opportunity to attend theatre/clinic as well as working as part of team looking after elective and trauma patients. There are also audit and research opportunities for you to build a competitive CV.

Undertaking ward rounds daily.
Attending consultant ward rounds as required.
Admitting trauma patients when on-call
Attendance at outpatient clinics and theatre as required.
Requesting investigations/treatment for patients as necessary.
Providing cover for colleagues in emergency and unforeseen situations.
Participation at teaching and regular clinical meetings held within the hospital

Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in Gloucester and Cheltenham
General Hospital to a population of 652,475* in Gloucestershire as
well as caring for patients from surrounding counties and beyond.

There are 29 Consultants who work across GRH and CGH. The
Directorate has developed a wide range of special interests including
trauma, spine, hip, knee, foot and ankle, shoulder, hand and
paediatric surgery. There are 3 Associate Specialists, 7 Specialty Doctors/Staff Grades, 9 Specialist Registrars, 3 Core
Surgical Trainees, 6 Trust Grade Junior Doctors, 5 F2 Doctors, 3 Physicians Associates and 2 Advanced Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioners in the Trauma & Orthopaedic department.
Orthopaedic trauma and elective spinal surgery is based at GRH with the majority of elective Orthopaedics based at CGH. Both hospitals have strong input from Orthogeriatrics and patients with hip fractures are
managed on a dedicated ward with shared care from both teams.
There are daily fracture clinics and specialist elective clinics in both sites. Elective clinics are also held at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital each week as well as 9 community hospitals in the region
