Description
Company Description Great Platform for Talent Job Description Deliver structural design and analysis for tunnel and underground works (TBM, Cut & Cover, NATM), with strong capability to manage geotechnical inputs and ground–structure interaction assumptions. The role supports design development from concept to detailed/IFC, under the guidance of the Lead Tunnel Engineer. 6 to 8 Years of experience Prepare structural design for underground structures including: TBM tunnels (segmental lining design checks, joints/gaskets assumptions, ring build, local openings, cross-passages interfaces) Cut & Cover tunnels (tunnel box, roof/slab/walls, construction staging effects, temporary works design inputs) NATM tunnels (primary and secondary lining concepts, ground classes, sequential excavation stages, support measures coordination) Perform engineering calculations and analysis using appropriate methods (hand calcs + software), including load combinations, construction stages, serviceability checks, durability provisions, and design reporting. Coordinate and interpret geotechnical deliverables and integrate them into structural design: Review GIR/GDR, borehole logs, lab test results, groundwater levels, and derived parameters Understand and apply soil/rock models and key parameters (γ, φ, c, Su, E, ν, K0, permeability, rock mass classification) Define and validate ground loads for tunnels: overburden, surcharge, lateral earth pressures, groundwater pressures, consolidation effects where applicable Support assessments for settlement, heave, face stability, basal stability, and impact on adjacent utilities/structures (with geotechnical team) Participate in defining instrumentation & monitoring requirements and trigger levels, where required for design assumptions Support analysis and coordination for temporary works and construction methodology impacts (staged excavation, dewatering assumptions, support sequencing, TBM construction load cases). Prepare and check drawings/design deliverables with BIM/CAD teams: typical sections, reinforcement concepts, waterproofing interfaces, openings, embedded items, and cross-discipline interfaces (MEP/architecture). Contribute to technical inputs: design basis notes, risk registers (geotechnical/design risks), RFI responses, and coordination minutes. Provide construction support as needed: review method statements (design-related), respond to RFIs, and support design changes/optimizations. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil / Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred). 6–8 years relevant experience in tunnel/underground structural design, with exposure to TBM, Cut & Cover, and/or NATM projects. Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering fundamentals relevant to underground structures, including soil/rock behaviour, groundwater effects, and ground–structure interaction principles. Familiarity with international codes and practices used for underground structures (project-specific), and ability to produce clear calculation packages and design notes. Experience coordinating with geotechnical, BIM, MEP, and alignment teams in a multi-disciplinary environment. Additional Information Software Structural analysis/design tools such as PLAXIS 2D/3D and/or MIDAS GTS NX and/or RS2/RS3 (working knowledge expected; ability to interpret results and assumptions). General structural tools (as used in your team) such as SAP2000/ETABS/STAAD/Robot (as applicable). AutoCAD (drawing review/markups); Revit/Navisworks for coordination exposure preferred. MS Excel for calculation templates and data reduction; report writing in MS Word.. Business Line: Transportation Type of contract: Permanent contract Service Line: Transverse - Transportation WBL Region: Middle East and South Asia Job Family: Design and Engineering Profession: Infrastructure - New railway lines, roads and highway aligment
