WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Our Tunnel Group and Rail and Transit Group are growing, and looking for an Intermediate Tunnel Engineer to join us in Mississauga or Markham, ON . You will play a key role in a wide variety of tunnel engineering projects. The Tunnel Group is an energetic dynamic team that is working on tunnelling projects for large diameter subway transit lines in GTA, municipal projects in Ontario, pursuits in Vancouver and subway lines in Australia.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Capability in working within tunnel design or construction teams
  • Experience designing large diameter tunnels (6m +)
  • Ability to design deep shaft & shoring structures
  • Experience in the design of tunnels in soft ground and transit underground support of structure
  • Confident with analytical and numerical analysis methods and ability to work with various industry standard geotechnical software’s (PLAXIS, FLAC, Rocscience etc.)
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of the different tunnelling & shaft construction methods, logistics, equipment & methodology selection
  • Experience in calculating tunnel induce settlement including analysis of damages to the adjacent infrastructure
  • Familiar with settlement instrumentation & monitoring
  • Tunnelling construction experience with TBM’s & precast linings
  • Soft ground tunnelling ancillaries including ground treatment & ground freezing
  • Familiar with the preparation of GBR’s, along with the review of GDR and geotechnical investigation planning for tunnel and underground structures
  • Ability to prepare PSOS specifications
  • Familiar with cost estimating & scheduling for tunnel/shaft construction
  • Demonstrated experience in preparation of detailed design reports & construction reporting
  • Excellent technical writing, presentation and team work skills
  • Assist GHD with project pursuits and proposal writings

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University graduate with degree in geotechnical, geological or civil engineering (Master Degree in Tunnel/Geotechnical Engineering would be considered an asset)
  • Professional status is essential, e.g. P.Eng, or working towards it
  • Proven experience in tunnel engineering, transportation and rail projects
  • Minimum of 4 years working on tunnel and underground projects, post graduate
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License (G)

Responsibilities
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collate and analyze data using preset tools, methods, and formats. Involves working independently.
  • Geoscientific Studies and Interpretations: Contribute to well proposals by providing complex analysis and interpretation of geological/geophysical field data. Involves using advanced modeling techniques.
  • Reservoir Characterization and Analysis: Assist with reservoir characterization and simulation by compiling reservoir engineering data and helping to analyze it. This could include data from flow tests and well tests, as well as data on historical production performance.
  • Engineering Solutions Design: Contribute to the development of, and implement feasibility testing of, proposed engineering solutions to provide feedback and data to validate the design.
  • Knowledge Management: Implement policies and processes, collect best practices and case studies, and participate in internal knowledge-sharing sessions to capture and share knowledge among colleagues on project/program outcomes and innovative practices in allocated projects.
  • Data Management: Help others get the most out of data management systems by providing support and advice.
  • Technical Developments Recommendation: Discuss and recommend technical developments to improve the quality of the website/portal/applications software and supporting infrastructure to better meet users’ needs.
  • Personal Capability Building: Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Support technical troubleshooting efforts, aiding in the quick and accurate identification, analysis, and resolution of technical issues with equipment and experiments.
  • Research: Carry out a range of research activities either to support others or to fulfill the requirements of the role.
  • Project Management: Work within an established project management plan to achieve specific goals.
  • Exploration Plan Development: Provide the design of exploration programs, including risk assessment and budgeting.
  • Client & Customer Management (External): Help senior colleagues manage client and customer relationships by using relevant sales or client systems.
