QUALIFICATIONS

In accordance with Pennsylvania state licensing regulations for childcare, the Twilight Care Director must meet or exceed one of the following criteria:

  • An Associates degree in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or a human services field and three years of experience with children; or

An associate degree from an accredited college or university, including at least 30 credit hours in the fields above and four years of experience with children.

  • A current CDA credential with ten years of early learning experience, including at least three years in a supervisory role.

Additional requirements include:

  • National Sex Offender Registry, FBI fingerprint record, PA Child Abuse History clearance, and PA State Police Criminal Record check clearance (all within five years of start date).
  • Staff health assessment and negative TB test result (within one year of start date).
  • Pediatric first aid and CPR certification (required prior to working with children unsupervised).
  • A minimum of three years of documented supervisory experience in an educational setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Current Pennsylvania Director’s Credential
  • Comprehensive understanding of child development
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with basic technology and computer applications
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

The Twilight Care Director must have reliable transportation to and from all YDEL properties and off-site meetings, training, and professional obligations. The Director must be able to:

  • Visually and auditorily identify and respond to hazards in the environment.
  • Regularly lift and carry children of various sizes and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds for work-related purposes.
  • Maintain adequate mobility and stamina to engage with students, staff, families, and visitors in an interactive environment.

Responsibilities

GENERAL DUTIES

The Twilight Care Director is responsible for managing all aspects of nightly operations in alignment with York Day Early Learning’s mission, vision, and philosophy. The Director is accountable for center-wide well-being, including health and safety, structure and program development, staffing, family and community engagement, facility maintenance, legal compliance, budgetary oversight, and long-range planning.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Adhering to all policies and procedures in the YDEL employee handbook and modeling confidentiality regarding students, staff, families, and community partners.
  • Demonstrating a proactive and positive attitude.
  • Working collaboratively with staff to solve problems, support program success, and foster teamwork.
  • Serving as a professional role model within YDEL, the community, and the field of early childhood education.
  • Treating all children, families, visitors, partners, and coworkers with dignity and respect.
  • Ensuring compliance with all state licensing regulations, NAEYC standards, and Pennsylvania Keystone STARS quality standards.
  • Reviewing and evaluating center operations to ensure alignment with YDEL’s mission and vision.
  • Utilizing regulatory and quality data-entry systems (e.g., PA PD Registry, Pelican).
  • Completing annual staff evaluations, identifying potential leaders, and supporting professional growth.
  • Supporting curriculum implementation across classrooms, providing staff training, and conducting monthly classroom observations with feedback.
  • Ensuring the health and safety of children and staff, assisting with first aid, and maintaining YDEL’s emergency preparedness plan (including training for staff, families, and outside agencies).
  • Supporting classroom staff in implementing positive behavior strategies and collaborating with outside agencies as needed.
  • Communicating regularly with families via YDEL’s electronic communication app, phone, or in person to build trust and foster strong relationships.
  • Collaborating with YDEL administrators to ensure organizational consistency and growth.
  • Assisting with nightly housekeeping responsibilities and ensuring the facility remains clean and orderly.
  • Filling in as needed for classroom teachers, front desk staff, or kitchen staff.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
