UI/UX DESIGNER (PART-TIME 28 HRS PER WEEK)

JOB SUMMARY

The User Experience Team of the BYU Office of Information Technology is seeking to hire a part-time UI/UX Designer and Researcher. This is a part-time job with 28 hours per week. The employee may set their own schedule during 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. working hours. We have a team of full-time and student employees and are looking to augment our team with someone who can be available on a consistent basis. We are passionate about User Experience and fully support the Mission of BYU. We need someone who is similarly passionate, reliable and hard-working. We welcome applicants from any major and are interested in demonstrated skills and a love for UX. We have many opportunities for training and our new designer will have opportunities to grow.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

This position provides an opportunity for people of varying levels of skill. If you have a lot of education, experience, and skill, we’ll compensate you accordingly. If you are early in your career, this could be a great opportunity for you, too. Different levels of pay are assigned depending on experience/education/skills.
Minimum Required: Associate degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Minimum Preferred: Two or more years of direct experience in UI/UX design and development

You are not required to have experience in all areas listed below. What you don’t know we can teach you. We are seeking the most qualified candidates; the more you have, the more likely you are to be selected. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and skills.

  • Working knowledge of UI/UX design principles and techniques
  • Experience with user testing and usability analysis
  • Familiarity with web-based information hierarchy and design
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage several projects efficiently
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Experience creating storyboards, website mapping, journey mapping, etc.
  • Understanding of graphic design
  • Familiarity with visual design programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Lucidchart
  • Experience with wireframing/prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies
  • A portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience creating user-centered design solutions
