POSITION SUMMARY DEFINITION Under the general direction of the Radiology Director, performs all ultrasound examinations in the care and services of patients in an acute care facility. Performs other related work as required. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way would be: Education High school or equivalent supplemented by completion of a recognized 18-month ultrasound program. Experience A minimum of six months clinical experience while training is required. One year of experience in a clinical setting is preferred. Licensure/Certification BLS certification (AHA Only) ARDMS certification required KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES Knowledge of: Cross sectional anatomy Hospital established policies quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures. The more common ultrasound equipment and instruments used in a hospital setting. Ability to: Apply aseptic and sterile techniques. Learn quickly the specific operations of a Radiology Department. Apply principles of medical sonography in the imaging and interpretation of patient examinations. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, physicians and fellow employees. Work effectively under stress and in emergency situations. Maintain records. Manage emergency or crisis situations; requires judgment/action which could result in undesirable patient outcomes. AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCY Maintains, demonstrates and is assessed on the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for physical, psychosocial and cultural needs appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
