Description Position Summary Performs two dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for the diagnosis of disease and study of the malfunction of organs. Participates in CQI activities. Primary Responsibilities Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary responsibilities. 1. Selects appropriate equipment for use in ultrasound setup, following exam specifications. 2. Explains the test to the patient. Instructs and assists the patient in assuming the physical position for examination. 3. Assesses patient’s understanding of process and informed consent. 4. Selects a transducer and adjusts the equipment controls according to the organ to be examined, the depth of field and other specifications of test. 5. Enters test data and patient information into computer of ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test results. 6. Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of the body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced. 7. Produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, strip printout or film. 8. Obtains permanent record of internal examination by photographing images of organs shown on the display module or removing the strip printout. 9. Assesses, evaluates and informs physician of changes in patient’s condition during the exam. 10. Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed. 11. Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc. 12. Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's instruction. 13. Understands contraindications and potential hazards of different exams. 14. Has knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of other departments. 15. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and general population. Competencies 1. Basic computer knowledge. 2. Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. 3. Ability to use appropriate discretion in handling confidential information and materials. Supervisory Responsibility No supervisory responsibility. Requirements Required Education and Experience 1. ARDMS required. 2. Current BCLS certification required. Preferred Education and Experience 1. Bachelor of Science degree preferred. 2. One year of radiologic/imaging experience preferred. 3. Prefer specific experience and training in Ultrasound. 4. Graduation from an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology preferred. 5. Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists preferred.
Responsibilities
