Description PRN Position- Work as Needed. DEPARTMENT: Radiology REPORTS TO: Director of Radiology SUMMARY: The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for providing imaging service care to patients utilizing sound waves to capture images of the internal organs and tissues for the diagnosis and treatment of medical issues. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Receives ultrasound orders, checks for correct diagnosis, special instructions from the requesting physician, and consults with physician/radiologist as necessary. Greets patients, confirming their identification. Interprets physicians scanning instructions. Prepares to operate the ultrasound equipment, selecting the correct probes and positions the patient to capture the appropriate images. Explains examination procedure to patient and family, if necessary. Verifies all data entry for patient demographic information. Performs visual preventative safety inspections on all equipment. Records and reports dangerous department or equipment conditions to appropriate personnel. Maintains necessary inventory of supplies for assigned area. Documents accurately and concisely, collecting appropriate clinical history for radiologist. Answers phone calls. Schedules appointments for patients. Assists staff with patient prep and scheduling information and questions. Keeps ACR records current and up to date. Maintains a safe and hygienic environment. Maintains professional acumen through professional organizations and educational programs. Speaks to callers, patients, physicians, other staff and anyone they interact with during their assigned work hours in a polite, courteous, understandable manner that projects Primary Care Associates interest in providing high quality customer service. Completes exams in a timely, accurate manner. Demonstrates a team spirit through cooperative, supportive professional work relationships. Complies with company policies and procedures. Maintains a regular and reliable level of attendance. Assures patient confidentiality and continuity of care according to HIPAA. Performs EKG’s. Performs other related duties as assigned by management. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or six months to one-year related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certificates, licenses and registrations required: ARDMS CPR certification. Echocardiogram preferred but not necessary. Other skills required: Knowledgeable of the ultrasound equipment, probes used and related accessories. Must be able to work independently, ability to exercise judgment and make decisions. Ability to work well with others and handle stressful situations maturely. Excellent communication skills. Excellent team player. Basic computer skills and knowledge including Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with EPIC software preferred. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Continually required to stand, walk, talk or hear. Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity. Frequently required to bend or stoop. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
