Job Details Position Type: Full Time Job Shift: Day Summary: Produces ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for the diagnosis of disease and for the study of fetal development by the physician. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Selects equipment for use in ultrasound setup according to specifications of examination. 2. Explains process to patient, instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination to ensure cooperation and optimum test results. 3. Selects transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to organ to be examined, depth of field, and other specifications of test. Summarizes the technical inferences and forwards to the physician for diagnosis. 4. Keys test data and patient information into computer of ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test results. 5. Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced. Captures images that describe the composition, shape, and motion of tissues, organs, and liquid buildup. 6. Starts equipment which produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data. Makes hard copy images and documents tests. 7. Maintains ultrasound equipment; orders and stocks all ultrasound supplies. 8. Maintains department records, reports, and files. 9. Obtains patient consent as necessary. 10. Performs related work as required. 11. Attends required meetings. 12. Complies with Virginia Women's Center's policies and procedures. Follows guidelines required by HIPAA and OSHA regulations. Maintains appropriate attendance and punctuality as defined by Virginia Women's Center's policy. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education, Experience and Licensure High school graduate or equivalent RDMS registered or registry eligible in OB/Gyn NT Certification required within first year of employment Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology to pinpoint area of imaging. Knowledge of ultrasound exam policies, protocols. Knowledge of operating PC and accessing applicable programs. Knowledge of OSHA guidelines. Skill in properly positioning patients to provide quality imaging. Skill in production of sonograms meeting department expectations. Skill in operating ultrasound equipment & taking vital signs. Skill in preparing and maintaining records and writing reports. Skill in maintaining departmental quality assurance and quality control standards. Skill in trouble-shooting equipment. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Ability to effectively care for patients and families across all points of the adult/adolescent continuum. Ability to identify problems. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to maintain strictest patient confidentiality. Ability to remain current in requirements of position. Physical Demands Combination of walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and transferring activities. Must be able to use correct body mechanics to assist patients appropriately. Occasional stress from multiple requests. Work Environment Work is performed in a medical office / exam room setting. The ultrasound room is typically kept dark for better imaging purposes. Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, ionizing radiation, and other conditions common to radiology setting.
