Responsibilities
  1. Assess surgical patients referred from the Emergency Department and undertake consults for inpatients.
  2. Admit, manage and discharge patients from the service under the supervision of surgical consultants/fellows with the aim of
    providing the highest possible standards of care.
  3. Participate in operations under supervision of fellows/surgeons.
  4. Provide telephone advice to community clinics, GPs and peripheral hospitals.
  5. Participate in the 24-hour roster for the Surgical Department as required to ensure the proper functioning of the service.
  6. Provide supervision to junior medical staff and other clinical staff, including those in other Divisions as appropriate.
  7. Provide medico-legal and other reports under supervision as appropriate.
  8. Participate in research, educational and professional development.
  9. Initiate and participate in quality assurance activities, peer review practices and continuing Medical Education.
    10.Participate in other activities as directed by the Director of Surgical Services.
    11.Assist outreach services to Katherine and Gove hospitals.
    12.Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
    in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
