The Department of Anthropology at Western University provides a diverse and dynamic environment for undergraduate, graduate students and faculty as they study the socio-cultural, linguistic, archaeological and biological diversity and complexity of humanity. For undergraduate and graduate students alike, the department offers a wide array of educational opportunities, such as international field courses and hands-on experiential learning courses. QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • 3 years’ University bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business or Administrative Studies, or a related field
  • Post-secondary education in Anthropology is preferred

Experience:

  • 3 years’ experience providing administrative support and customer service in an academic environment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of undergraduate cycle, program and academic policies and procedures preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in a professional, respectful, and diplomatic manner Working knowledge of University policies, procedures, and practices preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and follow through on work assignments Ability to apply active listening to hear and understand the complete message being communicated Competency to maintain confidentiality and treat sensitive information with discretion
  • Ability to establish rapport with people from diverse backgrounds

Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Department Chair, the Undergraduate Chair and the Administrative Officer, the Undergraduate Assistant is accountable for the effective and efficient administration of the undergraduate program in the Department of Anthropology. The Undergraduate Assistant provides information and guidance to undergraduate students, and plans, organizes, and implements undergraduate and recruitment events. The Undergraduate Assistant also advises and responds to faculty inquiries regarding undergraduate policies and department undergraduate matters.
