Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Based at our Newstead office, the Undergraduate Engineer is accountable for supporting the delivery of a safer and more productive heavy vehicle fleet through industry uptake of PBS vehicles. This will be achieved through timely assessment and approval of innovative heavy vehicle designs while ensuring compliance with nationally agreed safety and infrastructure performance standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ROLE ARE:

  • Support the Principal Engineer (Vehicle Safety and Performance) to deliver exceptional service to the transport industry through timely processing of PBS design applications, including amendments and variations for existing approvals.
  • Provide technical advice on PBS design applications in accordance with the Heavy Vehicle National Law and national standards.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of technical and operational policy, standards and guidelines relevant to the PBS scheme.
  • Build and maintain professional networks and effective relationships, including delivering exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL POSSESS

  • Be enrolled in a four-year engineering degree at an Australian higher education institution or a recognised equivalent, preferably in mechanical engineering.
  • Ability to rapidly acquire sound knowledge of PBS assessment rules, vehicle standards and relevant legislation.
  • Ability to work as part of a team of people to provide consistent, responsive and high-quality advice and customer service.
  • Ability to negotiate matters to achieve desired outcomes with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan and manage tasks, and deliver expected outcomes, in a dynamic environment with competing priorities
  • Sound problem solving and analytical skills, with ability to resolve technical issues.
  • Well-developed communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely articulate complex technical issues and risks for technical and non-technical audiences.
