Michigan Millers is seeking an Underwriter Associate New Business to join our team in our Lansing office! This position is responsible for assisting underwriting in obtaining profitable premium growth through policy processing and technical support for new business. Requirements What are the responsibilities and opportunities of this role? Assists underwriters in the processing of new business transactions. Reviews new business application documents, gathers additional information as needed to accurately underwrite policies, and provides pertinent information to underwriting staff. Works with assigned territory underwriters to perform follow-up tasks upon issuance of new business policies per established practices, processes, and procedures. Understands commercial lines rating methodology and coverage. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned. Consistently acts according to our customer experience standards, including responding quickly, maintaining a positive attitude, building rapport, demonstrating empathy, managing the customer’s expectations, using the proper communication channel for the situation, and taking ownership to ensure the customer’s issue is resolved. What are the must-have qualifications for a candidate? Ability to follow processes and have attention to detail. Effective oral and written communication skills. Proficient use of various core systems, office and computer equipment, and software packages. Ability to multitask and solve basic problems as well as demonstrate good time management. Flexibility to handle various assignments and changing priorities. Bachelor’s degree in insurance or finance; equivalent related experience in lieu of degree acceptable. What will our ideal candidate have? AU and / or INS certification. Knowledge of industry practices, standards, and underwriting concepts. Prior commercial insurance experience on either the carrier or agency side. Compensation overview The targeted hiring range for this role is $24.74 – 28.00, hourly. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on the job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience of each candidate, as well as other factors such as the scope and location of the role.
