UNDERWRITER, CASUALTY

Due to continuous growth in the Perth market, AXA XL are looking for a Casualty Underwriter to join our team in Western Australia. In this role, you will help support the growth of our company in the region while contributing to our outstanding reputation as a dependable business partner and employer. Your focus will be on assisting with the underwriting of a profitable portfolio of business for your assigned classes and region.
This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime.
What you’ll be DOING
What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Submission Support: Assist in reviewing submissions, including applications, policy documents, and claims experience data, while conducting basic research to help assess the risk for each account.
- Risk Premium Assistance: Support the calculation of risk premiums by gathering relevant data and helping to analyze costs associated with the sector and underwriting processes.
- Client Interaction: Aid clients on insurance and risk management inquiries, ensuring their needs are met and their experience is positive.
- Relationship Building: Help maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients, facilitating effective communication and support.
- Account Implementation: Assist in the timely implementation of new and renewed accounts, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
- Administrative Support: Handle day-to-day administrative tasks to support the team, including document management and record-keeping.
- Claims Awareness: Maintain awareness of all reported claims and assist in providing necessary documentation and input during the claims process.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with underwriters and the management team, providing support where needed.
You will report to the Senior Casualty Underwriter.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Industry Knowledge - Understanding of the insurance industry and specific product portfolios to positively impact the underwriting business.
- Experience – Ideally as an Assistant Underwriter, Underwriter. A desired skill would be experience and knowledge within Casualty/ Liability Markets.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred and equivalent experience in the relevant class of business, possessing functional knowledge and skills reflective of a fully competent practitioner.
- The ability to perform tasks according to established procedures, with some ability to exercise discretion.
- Marketing - Effectively plan for sales and business development. Integrating the use of various techniques, tools, and information to support profitable business growth over a defined period.
- Negotiation/Sales - Plan, structure and conduct negotiations with brokers and/or clients to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties.
- Analytical Skills - Visualize, gather information, articulate, analyze and solve complex problems to make key business decisions.
- Interpersonal Savvy - Build excellent interpersonal relationships with brokers, clients & colleagues with the intention of improving personal profile and reputation within AXA XL and the broader market.
- Strategy and Planning - Make underwriting decisions to fulfill business strategic plan and deliver results. Has knowledge of financial targets and levers to deliver on departmental business plan.
