POSITION OVERVIEW:

As an Underwriter at Kohler Credit Union, you’ll play a vital role in helping our members achieve their financial goals by making thoughtful, data-driven lending decisions. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze complex loan applications, including credit, income, and collateral, to determine risk and eligibility.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and secondary market guidelines.
  • Communicate loan decisions clearly to internal teams and members, outlining conditions and documentation needs.
  • Identify high-risk factors, potential fraud, and exceptions, with well-supported recommendations.
  • Support new colleagues in their development and assist lending staff by serving as a key resource for underwriting guidance.
  • Contribute to process enhancements, participate in audits, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or a related field preferred - or equivalent work experience in underwriting or a related financial field.
  • Experience & Expertise:
  • 4-6 years of underwriting experience across both consumer and mortgage lending
  • Familiarity with Desktop Underwriter (DU), Loan Prospector (LP), or other automated underwriting systems
  • Regulatory Knowledge:
  • Working knowledge of TILA, RESPA, HMDA, FCRA, and other lending regulations
  • Leadership & Collaboration:
  • Proven ability to guide, support, and train team members
  • Strong collaboration skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving
