Job Details We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Mortgage Underwriter to join our mortgage operations team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in evaluating and assessing mortgage loan applications for approval, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities: Application Evaluation: Review and analyze mortgage loan applications to determine the eligibility of applicants for loan approval. Assess the financial status, creditworthiness, and risk factors associated with each loan application. Risk Assessment: Evaluate and mitigate potential risks by considering factors such as debt-to-income ratio, loan-to-value ratio, and credit history. Determine appropriate loan terms, conditions, and pricing based on risk analysis. Documentation Review: Examine and verify all supporting documentation, including income statements, credit reports, and property appraisals, to ensure accuracy and completeness. Identify and address discrepancies or inconsistencies in the loan file. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all loan applications adhere to company policies, as well as federal and state regulatory requirements. Stay informed about changes in mortgage regulations and implement adjustments as necessary. Communication with Stakeholders: Communicate effectively with loan officers, processors, and other internal stakeholders to address inquiries and provide guidance. Collaborate with other departments to facilitate a smooth loan approval process. Decision Making: Make informed and well-documented decisions on loan applications, providing clear explanations for approvals, denials, or conditions. Escalate complex or exceptional cases to senior management when necessary. Quality Assurance: Implement and oversee quality control measures to ensure accuracy and consistency in underwriting decisions. Conduct regular audits to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field. Proven experience as a Mortgage Underwriter or in a similar role within the mortgage industry. In-depth knowledge of mortgage lending practices, regulations, and industry guidelines. Strong analytical and decision-making skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Familiarity with underwriting software and tools.
