Umialik Insurance Company, a member of the Western National Insurance Group is seeking a Personal Lines Underwriting Associate to join our team! The individual in this role will have the opportunity to assist Underwriting in profitable premium growth through policy processing and technical support for both new and renewal business. What are the responsibilities and opportunities of this role? Assists Underwriters in the daily underwriting and processing of new and renewal business, endorsements, and premium audit transactions. Uses established practices, processes, and procedures to renew and endorse existing policies based on underwriting authority. Reviews new and renewal business application documents, gathers additional information as needed to accurately underwrite policies. Assesses risk and exposures on existing business to identify opportunities to maximize assigned territory loss ratio and growth objectives. Executes policies within established authority level and established eligible risks. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned. Decision making guided by specific policies and objectives within which straightforward decisions are required. Applies knowledge to help solve problems of relatively limited scope and complexity. Meets our customer experience standards, including: responding quickly; maintaining a positive attitude; building rapport; demonstrating empathy; managing the customer’s expectations; using the proper communication channel for the situation; and taking ownership to ensure the customer’s issue is resolved. Requirements What are the must-have qualifications for a candidate? Strong ability to follow established processes with exceptional attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and resolve routine problems effectively. Flexibility to handle a variety of assignments and shifting priorities. Ability to build relationships and negotiate effectively with internal and external partners. Strong time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Foundational understanding of industry standards and underwriting principles. (preferred) Basic knowledge of insurance coverages, forms, symbols, and endorsements by line of business. (preferred) Basic understanding of insurance rating and premium calculation. (preferred) Education Associates or bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent related experience. AU and/or INS certification acquired or working toward preferred. Technical Skills Proficient use of various core systems, office and computer equipment and software packages. Compensation overview The full hiring range for this role is $24.41 - $32.22, hourly. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on the job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience of each candidate as well as other factors such as the scope and location of the role.
