Job Description:
Angel Risk Management specialises in underwriting products for the small to medium-sized sector on behalf of AXA XL – the global insurer that combines financial security with a nimble and empowered approach. AXA XL provides property, casualty, professional and specialty products to industrial, commercial and professional businesses, insurers and enterprises through the world.
The majority of Angel online business is underwritten either via the Angel Underwriting bespoke system from the Angel Chelmsford office or the Angel online quick quote system. A typical Angel broker would usually be a smaller and predominately regionally focused broker.
At this level, the role holder manages all aspects of the underwriting operations within ARM in accordance with coverholder agreements and corporate/divisional guidelines. This includes but is not limited to portfolio profitability, account pricing, portfolio rate change, renewal retention, marketing, new business production, existing and new product development, ARM Commercial strategy, adhering to regulatory and governance requirements, development of staff and broker and client management.
The role holder must possess broad technical expertise across various classes of business and will personally handle risks within both new and renewed by ARM. Further, the role holder will act as a senior contact for insureds and retail brokers, assume ownership of the P&L and ensure strategic growth and development of the business in line with company objectives, whilst retaining Clients.
The role holder will support AXA XL’s cross-sell objectives and identify new product opportunities, by understanding capabilities across other lines of business and maintaining open communication with colleagues in other departments. The role holder will also be required to provide regular communication and reporting to the ARM Board, AXA XL senior management and Internal Product Teams (those providing coverage).
This is a Senior Manager role regulated under the Senior Manager & Certification Regime and is also a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent); professional designations preferred.
  • Proven Underwriting experience at leadership level, and experience in policy development and broker management in the respective line(s) of business.
  • Experience of hands-on team leadership, demonstrating increasing responsibilities and knowledge of team motivation principles and practices. Ability to lead in accordance with AXA XL’s Core Values and Culture.
  • Knowledge of functionality of systems including advanced technical skills with Microsoft Office and other relevant systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills combined with an excellent work ethic.
  • Ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication including active listening skills, networking, marketing and collaboration skills evidencing public speaking and presentation experience.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with customers, producers and brokers.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to multi-task.

Responsibilities

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Execute departmental strategy and achieve P&L metrics, including verification of appropriate risk premium calculations to ensure profitability.
  • Leading, developing and proactively managing a team of underwriters.
  • Oversight on submissions including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports.
  • Imparting your thorough working knowledge of underwriting principles, procedures and controls to team members, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement
  • Effective relationship management with clients and broker partners, initiating opportunities for cross-selling offered products and ensuring account retention
  • Maintain visibility in the market by marketing to insureds and brokers.
  • Controlling timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to quality standards
  • Ensuring client satisfaction as it relates to fulfillment of their insurance requirements.
  • In coordination with other AXA XL teams, agreement and adherence to coverholder agreements for risk placements.
  • Reviewing loss control reports and managing policy endorsement requests to process any necessary changes to the policy.
  • Collaboration with other AXA entities/teams to ensure alignment of appetite and strategy
  • Guide and drive IT development and System Enhancement and New Product Developments
  • Provide updates and performance reporting to ARM Board and ensure compliance of Board requirements.
