JOB SUMMARY:

The UW Manager acts as first level management for the Underwriting division, handling both personnel tasks and issues, as well as technical UW tasks.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-7 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior experience managing direct reports.
  • Conflict resolution skills and thorough understanding of company policy and procedures.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience underwriting commercial property and casualty (Must include General Liability, Product Liability and Property)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Cannabis underwriting experience not required
  • High School Diploma required; Associates degree or higher preferred
  • Certified UW and/or progressive training in UW/Insurance specific disciplines
Responsibilities
  • Help develop UW standards, methods, and processes in accordance with best practices and industry benchmarks.
  • Manage personnel training needs, development plans and stretch assignment for UW team.
  • Provide basic and complex system admin for issue resolution and problem solving.
  • Approve timecards, Paid Time Off, and other Payroll related functions as the supervisor.
  • Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.
  • Manage the team’s performance using KPI’s, monthly 1:1s, task reconciliations, reports, and audit procedures.
  • Build strong, positive agent relationships to promote profitability and growth of new business and the retention of existing business.
  • Identify opportunities for underwriting improvement and recommend solutions.
  • Underwrite and maintain a profitable book of business.
