Our team focuses on compliance and accuracy, consistently underwriting to the guides provided by the GSEs (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac) and other government loan program guidelines (FHA, VA, USDA).
Position Summary
The Underwriting Team Lead will lead and support our underwriting team to ensure consistent, high-quality underwriting decisions while managing workflow and fostering professional growth within the department. This is a remote position with periodic in-person collaboration at our Fenton, MI headquarters.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform mortgage underwriting in accordance with GSE and government program guidelines.
- Manage and balance underwriting department workload to meet production and turn-time goals.
- Hold regular one-on-one meetings with underwriters to provide coaching, support, and performance feedback.
- Conduct and lead recurring underwriting team calls.
- Participate in ongoing training sessions to enhance personal and team knowledge of guidelines and industry updates.
- Develop and maintain underwriting policies, internal knowledge base, and standardized processes.
- Willingness to learn, master, and take ownership of Non-QM programs, including alignment with applicable investor guidelines and overlays.
- Partner with operations leadership and report directly to the COO.
Qualifications
- Minimum 8+ years of mortgage underwriting experience, including conventional and government programs.
- Prior leadership or management experience in an underwriting or similar operations role preferred.
- Deep knowledge of GSE (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac) and government lending (FHA, VA, USDA) guidelines.
- Strong communication and coaching skills with the ability to manage remote team members effectively.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to attend onsite meetings in Fenton, MI twice per month.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
