OVERVIEW

The Unit Aide provides support to the clinical team by ensuring a clean, safe, and well-organized environment for patient care. This role is responsible for maintaining adequate medical supply inventory, coordinating ordering and restocking processes, and assisting with non-clinical tasks that support smooth unit operations

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or medical supply environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and common healthcare supplies an asset.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with inventory systems preferred. Excel preferred.
  • Ability to lift and move supplies (up to 25 lbs) and be on feet for extended periods.
Responsibilities
  • Medical Supply Ordering & Inventory Management * Monitor unit medical supply levels on a daily/weekly basis to ensure adequate stock.
  • Prepare and submit supply orders according to established schedules and budget guidelines.

    • Receive deliveries, verify order accuracy, and report discrepancies or damaged items.

    • Rotate stock and ensure supplies are stored in a clean, organized, and accessible manner.
    • Track supply usage trends and alert leadership to potential shortages or overstock situations.
    • Maintain accurate inventory records using manual logs or inventory management software.
    • Liaise with vendors and the procurement department regarding supply issues or urgent requests. Unit Support
    • Assist with room turnover between patients, including cleaning and restocking as required.
    • Transport equipment, specimens, and non-hazardous materials within the facility.
    • Assist with the movement of patients (non-lifting tasks) under the direction of clinical staff.
    • Set up equipment and supplies for procedures as directed.
    • Support infection prevention by following proper cleaning and handling protocols for supplies and equipment.
    • Provide periodic break coverage.
