Your Opportunity:
This is an exciting opportunity at the Strathcona Community Hospital. The facility offers a 24/7 Emergency Department and a variety of Ambulatory, Laboratory, and Diagnostic Imaging services. The Unit Clerk, under the general supervision of the Manager, serves as the point of first contact in matters concerning the efficient administration of the Emergency Department. The emergency department unit clerk is responsible for: Managing incoming and outgoing telephone calls, greeting and directing patients/visitors, and managing patient records/charts. Processing outgoing referrals for patients via the Connect Care Work Queue and managing deferred referrals in a timely manner. Manage and relay information on frequent consults utilizing a centralized consult and referral system for patients within the department. Booking appointments and interfacility transfers. Maintaining clear and effective communication with interdisciplinary departments such as diagnostic imaging, laboratory, social work, other health professionals, patients and families while maintaining patient confidentiality. Assisting with tasks that improve patient and department flow that fall within the Unit Clerk scope of practice. Completing basic troubleshooting on technical and clinical equipment and submitting repair tickets as appropriate. Submitting building maintenance requests as required. Relaying and coordinating information related to admissions, transfers and discharges of patients, diagnostic testing. Maintaining administrative supplies on the unit. Sending and receiving departmental mail. Updating and maintaining unit clerk and department digital resources as required, (I.E. resources in a shared network drive.
Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
