Job Title: Unit Clerk
Status: Temporary Part Time (~3-6 Month Contract)
Department: Inpatient Surgery
Program: Surgical Program
Days, Evenings, Weekends; 8 and 12 Hour Shifts (Subject to Change)

Wage Schedule: $28.340 - $29.620 per hour

This position is open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 19 August 2025 and closing at 11:59 pm on 22 August 2025.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

To function as a unit clerk, performing a wide variety of clerical duties such as: maintaining patient charts; facilitating the admission/discharge/ transfer process; maintaining confidentiality of information; documenting and maintaining a variety of statistical information for the unit; answering the telephone and taking accurate messages. Inputting into the computer and writing reports; and performing other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Medical Office Administration Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Proven knowledge of medical terminology (tested);
  • Proven knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (tested - basic level);
  • Proven keyboarding skills of 35 wpm (tested);
  • Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, documentation skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community;
  • Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing education and learning;
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public;
  • Must have a satisfactory performance record;
  • Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health’s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area;
