Position Summary
Our Commercial Insurance division is currently seeking a Unit Leader to join our team. This dual role operates as an Account Executive and provides day-to-day oversight for the traditional service team. As Unit Leader, this role ensures effective operations and best in class customer service for our middle market clients. This position also serves as a strategic risk consultant for an assigned book of business. The Account Executive is the primary lead on the account and serves as the formal liaison to the insurance carrier on behalf of the client. As an extension of the Producer, the Account Executive works closely to strengthen existing client relationships and secure new business.
The Account Executive is part of a three-tier service team which is joined by an Account Manager and Account Administrator. The service team provides comprehensive service to clients and prospects through a defined service timeline to free producers to focus on additional growth opportunities. This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished insurance professional to have a lasting impact on other insurance professionals and Haas & Wilkerson clients.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as team lead for a large book of business, providing day-to-day mentoring, coaching and guidance to their team as they work collectively to service their clients.
  • Utilize advanced technical expertise and knowledge to provide consultation, account management and support to Producers and clients; may include specialization in certain industries.
  • Serve as risk manager for the client delivering a long-term, strategic approach to their insurance solutions; consult with the client regarding significant changes to their business (i.e. mergers, acquisition, relocation, etc.) and how it affects their coverage.
  • Conduct extensive review of policies and identify potential areas of exposure; cross-sell additional lines of coverage as needed; perform complex contract reviews.
  • Coordinate appointments as needed, and follow-up with clients/prospects obtaining sufficient information to prepare a complete submission such as supplemental applications, spreadsheets, or other as required.
  • Spearhead the review process: perform a review of each line of business to determine possible coverage gaps and recommend enhancements including, but not limited to: verifying classifications and modification factors, reviewing and compiling loss data, a preliminary review of client’s financial statements; a review of client’s exposures and operations to determine coverage needs.
  • Lead the prospect new business or client renewal process which includes determining appropriate market selection, obtaining quotes, negotiating pricing and coverages with underwriters and following up to ensure timely receipt of quotations, reviewing for accuracy and preparing the proposal.
  • Partner with the Producer with the onboarding of new clients.
  • Ensure clients receive quality insurance programs which deliver a balance of long-term relationship with our insurance carriers and the best coverage, terms and conditions, and value for the client.
  • Present proposal, discusses coverage(s), address technical questions; may be done with or without Producer at their discretion.
  • Offer recommendations alongside the proposal to the client based on client’s exposures; suggest changes, additions, and deletions when appropriate.
  • Mentor, train and direct their team members with respect to all aspect of their positions including process and procedure, coverage and policy knowledge, and client service.
  • Promote collaboration, teamwork and effective delegation within their team; provide feedback to department leadership regarding general operations, efficiencies or system limitations.
  • Manage and resolve escalated client situations or carrier issues, involving department leadership as needed.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge to guide and support team members.
  • Monitor team for quality control, consistency, and accuracy; identify trends or apparent issues that need to be resolved.
  • Monitor and assess team workload and book load; make recommendations for change as needed.
  • Conduct quarterly Connect meetings with team; responsible for accurate timekeeping, scheduling and other HR items for the team.

Requirements
Some college education with a minimum of 5 years directly related commercial insurance experience or a minimum of 10 years directly related commercial insurance experience is required. Candidates must have previous experience managing or leading others. Previous experience working as an Account Executive (or similar capacity) for an insurance broker is strongly valued. Ideal candidates will have a professional, polished representation and the ability to foster and cultivate strong relationships with clients.
Successful candidates will have excellent customer service and written communications skills. The successful candidate also will be service-oriented with a sense of urgency and have the ability to prioritize under multiple deadlines. The ability to use critical thinking, solve complex issues and utilize sound, independent judgement is critical to the role. Strong organizational skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs is required. Experience using an agency management system is valued. Previous experience utilizing Vertafore products is ideal.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual with advanced knowledge of commercial insurance products, markets, insurance rating, and underwriting procedures. Individuals with professional insurance designations and certifications (CIC, ARM, CPCU, etc.) are highly preferred. Candidates must have their state Property and Casualty License or the ability to obtain license within 60 days.
